Wiped Film Evaporators with rectification column for laboratory use

In some cases, the separation efficiency of a single stage wiped film distillation unit is not sufficient to achieve decent product qualities. In such cases wiped film evaporators (as reboiler) combined with a rectification column with several separation stages (theoretical plates) are used to increase the separation efficiency.

Advantages to use a wiped film evaporator as reboiler for the column:

    • Short residence time
    • Processing of viscous materials
    • High evaporation rates due to wiped film
    • Only little fouling tendency

    The wiped film distillation systems with rectification column are set-up modular and consist in the basic configuration as follows:

      • Feeding system
      • Evaporator
      • Rectification column
      • External condenser with reflux divider
      • Cold trap
      • Discharge systems for distillate and residue
      • Heating system
      • Vacuum system

      The main components are fabricated in Borosilicate glass to enable observation of product properties like foaming, fouling and film distribution on the heated shell during distillation.

      With laboratory units along with 3-4 kg of crude material, proper and reliable tests can be performed.   
       
      Further technical features

        • Operating pressure: 1,000 – 0.5 mbar (column head); min. 1.5 mbar in evaporator (depending on evaporation rate and reflux ratio)
        • Number of theoretical plates are selected based on customers’ needs.
        • Standard: approx. 10
        • Max. melting point of the material to be processed: 150 °C
        • Max. heating temperature of jacket: 350 °C
        • Max. viscosity at operating temperature: 15,000 mPas (cP)

        Available options

        The systems are customized to the customers’ needs based on product properties and frequency of use. Besides the basic configuration the following options can be selected:

        • Continuous feeding systems
        • Continuous discharging systems for distillate and residue
        • Jacketing of individual sections (feed, residue and distillate) for melting or viscous products
        • Combination with additional evaporation stages
        • Selection of product wetted parts in Borosilicate glass, stainless steel or other special materials and alloys
        • PLC and visualization
